Questions & answers

The questions clients actually ask.

The questions homeowners, designers and contractors actually ask us, roughly in the order they ask them — from "is my surface right for this?" through to "what happens after it's sealed?"

Stage

Before you decide

What finishes do you offer?

The full range of plaster and micro finishes: microcement, Venetian polished plaster, Moroccan Tadelakt, Marble Polished Plaster (Marmorino), microtopping, Diamond Polished Microcement, Micro Quartz, Solidro Micro, natural lime Terrae-Calce, San Marco decorative paint effects, bespoke decorative plaster, luxury bathrooms and custom microcement sinks. Because we cover them all, we can specify the right system for your surface rather than forcing one product onto every job.

Is there a minimum project size?

Yes — we generally take on projects of around 20 sq m and above. These finishes are layered, time-intensive crafts, and a sensible minimum lets us prepare the substrate properly and deliver a genuinely seamless result rather than a rushed patch.

Can microcement go over my existing floor or tiles?

Usually, yes. Microcement is only 2–3mm thick and can be laid over most sound existing surfaces, so a full rip-out often isn't needed. We assess the substrate first — that assessment is part of getting a seamless, lasting finish.

Are these finishes suitable for a bathroom or wet room?

Very much so. Venetian plaster is waterproof and breathable, and Tadelakt is burnished with black olive soaps to form a genuinely waterproof membrane that's also antimicrobial and mould-resistant. Microcement bathrooms and wet rooms are sealed for their use. One contractor's review notes we did their "bathroom, shower room and kitchen floor" on a single project.

Samples & getting started

Do you provide samples before I commit?

Yes — we make you a free handcrafted sample in your chosen colour and finish, so you can see and feel the real surface before deciding. It's the honest way to choose a hand-applied finish, which never looks quite the same on a screen.

Can you match a specific colour or an existing scheme?

Yes. We colour-match finishes to RAL, Farrow & Ball and Little Greene references, so the surface sits exactly with your walls, joinery and wider interior — whether we're working alongside your designer or directly with you.

Stage

During the work

How long does a microcement floor take to install?

A typical Micro Quartz floor install runs over about six to seven days, as the layers are built up, cured and sealed in sequence. Timescales vary with the size and system, but hand-applied finishes can't be rushed without showing it in the result.

Will the finish stand up to daily use?

Yes — matched to the surface. Diamond Polished Microcement is mechanically polished with industrial diamond abrasives for high-traffic floors, hallways and showrooms; microtopping is UV-stable and scratch-resistant; and every finish is sealed for its use. A trade review describes a "diamond-polished floor" that was "smooth, flawless, and has completely transformed the space."

Areas & who we work with

Which areas do you cover?

We're based in Saffron Walden, Essex, and cover Cambridge, London, Essex and the surrounding counties as our core patch. Our microcement floor installs are regularly delivered across London and Cambridge, and for designers, contractors and commercial clients we travel nationwide.

Do you work with interior designers and contractors?

Yes — a large part of our work is with interior designers, building contractors and commercial clients, alongside private homeowners. We collaborate with design practices and are supplied by leading material houses, and every project is logged with our suppliers from sample to finish.

Stage

Afterwards

Is the finish waterproof and easy to look after?

Where it needs to be, yes. Venetian and Tadelakt form waterproof surfaces, microcement and Solidro Micro are sealed for their use, and seamless finishes have no grout lines to discolour — which makes them straightforward to keep clean, in homes and commercial spaces alike.

What if I want to extend the finish later?

Because every project is logged with our suppliers, the exact system, colour and batch behind your finish are on record. That makes it far easier to match the surface if you extend the scheme to another room down the line — and, as one customer put it, they "would not hesitate to use him again."
